O’ Rourke’s Small Meadow, 2008, LSC Resideny, Manorhamilton, Ireland
The town despite it’s old Irish name Cluinin carries the English name Manorhamilton. The name Manorhamilton derives from the fact that a Scottish guy – Hamilton who fought for England got that area as the reward for his loyalty (they say he was not a good guy).
He built a Manor – Manorhamilton.
I asked myself, why are they still keeping this ‘hated’ name for their town when they have their own original Irish name?
The idea was to draw attention to this fact by translating the old Irish name Cluinin in English, meaning O’Rourke’s Small Meadow.
